Safeguarding

Safeguarding young people.

SYLC membership is for adults aged 18 and over. Young people under 18 can take part only in our supervised youth format, and only with written consent from a parent or carer.

The youth format

  • Sessions are in groups, never one-to-one, with at least two adults present online or in person.
  • Adults and young people do not exchange personal contact details or private messages.
  • Young people do not work on confidential or commercial material.
  • Under-18s cannot hold club roles or stand for or vote in elections.
  • We do not publish the names or photographs of under-18s.
  • Any adult whose role would count as regulated activity with children has an enhanced DBS check with children’s barred list information.

Our safeguarding policy is being adopted by the board in October 2026. Until then, under-18s attend only sessions at which a parent or carer is present.
